I started this painting in good enough weather but soon after it turned a bit nasty.
Rain, winds, I didn’t want to quit.
So you'll have to adapt, and forget about your first idea. All grey overcast isn't beautiful at all. The rain not comfortable.
BUT, if you keep at it, often you’ll see, right after your 'despair' there will be something lucky entering your scene again. Rays of sunshine increase the contrasts of a dark sky, making darks DARK and the lit waves LIGHT. Trumping overcast.
There's nothing better than lit parts in waves and ocean against a dark sky. It’s even rare to encounter it (as an outdoor painter especially) because, yes, we’re creatures of comfort : )
