Bad weather, but what a view!

Aw! First day in the 3-day MasterClass Seascaping, and they (the artists joining) were tested heavily!

I teach how you can continue painting in most/all weather, there’s only one thing keeping me from finishing a painting and that’s lightning. On the beach you will run for shelter for that. But, as everything passes at the coast more quickly, mostly because of the winds, we did get a dry period after and we could finish the painting.

Here, back against the winds, while the hale poured :) A simple start of the painting. When using oils it cannot get destroyed by rain: when the canvas has paint everywhere. You can later just continue in it.

I don’t say it often enough, there is such beauty in the greyer days, the rainy days, it’s a great opportunity for different paintings. Nobody wants to only paint sunny blue skies and white fluffy clouds, yes? If you like interesting ocean colors and huge clouds giving great light effects, you can find it.

(Painting #163) When the blue does enter, all colors change. The sand appears more red, blues, purples reflect on the water. I don’t do the frontal view often, but these I like. Maybe because the straight horizon line is integrated well. And not distractingly straight : ) If it appears to be ‘too straight’ it’s often a contrast issue as well.
