This was so special.
Looking up, at the end of the painting there was a huge halo around the sun. Other people also saw it, filming it. (see below)
Thick atmosphere yet sunny.
I made the mistake many times before: where I created a rather thin painted sky, and a thick painted beach.
I think the trick is to use as much paint for the sky as for the rest. And with clouds you cannot have too little paint. Then: do not create only thick painted clouds: but use a similar thickness for all parts. Also the ‘blue’ parts.
I love this painting. Currently it’s at Gallery ‘Bonnard’ in Nuenen (Holland).
