Majestic Clouds - Florida 2025

Majestic Verticals!

I called this 'triangle country' as the clouds presented this.
Maybe it IS in the soil and it's reflected outward. Nature is that mysterious!
Also thinking about the natives from long ago, their structures, or the 1 dollar bill : ) We are influenced by nature, because we are part of nature. Anyways, see this comparison,

Here in Holland the clouds almost never show those shapes, certainly no triangles, and hardly ever a vertical as in a 'column of cloud'. (I know, it's the hot air, then again, never saw it so clear before!)
These things can fascinate a painter, of course, reason to paint it and to celebrate it.

Here is what we saw in the sky from Tampa airport, on the way back home:

The tropical smells, feeling, we loved it as it felt so familiar. As I wrote before, we have roots in Asia, we traveled there to family for ten+ years, so it felt a bit like 'home'.

Here you see some cloud related paintings, this one, part of a morning demo, the creamy-yellow colors, and also edges of pink still visible. the dunes in shade,

For above painting, a takeaway: I had to be faster, quickly the shadow on the dune was lit by the sun. So I had to work from memory. Which you want to avoid. So, the takeaway would be: paint the 'thing' that changest fastest first: here the cloud AND dune. If you don't have time, then just place a area in simplified: in the right color, so painting/finishing from memory is easier with a general 'right' color for an area.

And here the one day (or the one afternoon) that there was dark sky and thunder rolling in. A great sight, but, the lightning and beach combination needs to be avoided of course :)

Barbara stayed longest, taking unnecessary risk of course. Here a great pic of her and Suzanne, us painting there,

The early morning creamy colored clouds, I painted this view as a morning demo:

Here you see I start with warming up the canvas (sienna). A light and dark design is after created by adding in the pink under the sky area.
Adding paint with the knife is more speedy, it also allows for more paint on the canvas from the start, so you'll end more thick. I add simple divisions in blue variations.
After, highlight variations in warm whites to reflect a morning cloud formation above the horizon.
At the same time the warm grey clouds are placed, finding a composition therein.
After, ocean, ocean colors, sand colors, dividing in light and shade, the far away pier is more clear now, adding highlights there, and dune parts is last.
