Beautiful Palms - Florida 2025

Palms, at Sunrise & Sunset.

Those beautiful Chinese palms!
I have them in Holland too, smaller of course, are these 'Sabal Palms'?

So glorious to see them (so big). And yes, the hurricane from 2 years ago did change a lot here in St. Pete, or the beach area mostly, they did renovate the dune area, lost businesses and trees.

Being there, there is nothing directly reminding you of that loss, except when you've been here before.

The fun thing about choosing this location for my abroad class, is that this place has the same or more ease than my Katwijk beach location.
There is a boulevard or, here, little street, with houses and stays directly on it, cross the street and enter the dune/beach area.
Good for little emergencies, as one of my children hurt his foot on shells, we could go into our stay quickly, get a bandage, and return to my class. Going to the bathroom, grabbing gear, all easy.
Then there was a fun restaurant, quite good also, at a walk away, on the beach. In my next class (Feb '26) we'll paint closer to this restaurant.

Good to find more spots that could be great to paint while you're there, some ideas/views cannot be seen from an internet web page/photos.

Here the grass in the dunes, a see-through towards the sunset for example,

And the opposite street-view, this landmass so narrow: on one side the sunrise, the other the sunset(!!) Isn't that Coooool!!

A street view with the palms, again that vertical effect, great for a long sized painting! Here the first colors of the twilight before/during sunrise!

And a early morning view, opposite side, before the sunrise,

And a painting that was hard to photograph well, pastels and colored greys, sunrise first light, view on ocean side,

TIP / Next time I'll for sure focus again on those beautiful trees. Also 'hard to conquer', that makes it fascinating too. Good to create a 'silhouette', squinting helps, and taking time observing its shape. Then, the next step is finding the highlights, shadows within the shape. I'm at that stage. : ) So, cannot wait to paint them again!

And a BIG PS, I am returning to Florida/ St. Pete to teach Seascaping AGAIN! I'll first send out my newsletter and in a few days I can invite YOU in for this(in 2026). I'll notify my email list first!

Your Seascapes will get that spark of life in, when you can paint them there: standing on the beach. Here I have an overview of the in-person/outdoor painting classes I offer, (and soon 2026 is added completely, incl. Florida II.)

Even if you don't live near a beach, you can book a holiday to a place near the ocean and start painting there.
