A favourite one. Painted in rainy circumstances. Lucky to have the horse carriage go by, without it the painting would be too boring.
Often that's how it goes. You need to take from the scene, whatever is there. Perhaps a dog running, man, woman walking, horse or carriage.
In the past they had their big brown fishing boats here. Much easier to create a stunning painting from. But now those tiny parts of dark is all we have. Still you're lucky when you can see something in the time you're there, and you paint it in.
Those tiny parts of dark can make the whole painting sing: darks add strength to lights and mid-tones.
