Creating Something Sunny

In 8 Steps.

The slides in the video show the steps in this painting. Going from a all blank canvas to having it filled can be done pretty fast. Then ‘dotting the i’s’, that’s taking me far longer.
Creating the ‘right’ transitions, I call this ‘weaving’, that’s always taking 5x the beginning stage time. But the artists in my class could at least see how you can build something up. How you can create a ’simplified translation’ from a view that shows so much.

Standing in the shoreline, there’s the sky, ocean, waves and the reflection on the shallow waters. You know I’ve painted here so many times, but, it keeps to be very interesting to me, painting is like solving a puzzle, the more difficult, the more it can fascinate. It’s of course also beautiful, and especially in the morning light. But that too is part of the puzzle. Creating something sunny.

 The artists also found that 'sunniness' is a result of color usage mostly. (Color combinations and saturation, omitting black from the palette, being careful with van Dycke brown or Phalos...etc.!)
But, perhaps it's always better to not try to find 'theory' but to get better at 'painting what is there', hard enough, but really the base of all 'findings' and all theory you'll find/use.
